Jan Suraaj’s ‘System Change’ Promise Under Scanner Over Ticket Distribution

Patna, Sept 29. Jan Suraaj, which entered Bihar politics with the slogan of “Right People, Right Thinking and Vyavastha Parivartan (System Change)”, is facing its first major test over its own system.

Questions are being raised within the organization soon after the probable list of candidates was released.

According to party insiders, many tickets have been given to faces who were active in other political parties till a few months ago. This has led to resentment among workers who have been working for the organization and its padyatra for the last two to three years.

A senior worker associated with the party in Patna, on condition of anonymity, said, “We built the organization at the booth level, but when it came to tickets, people who came from outside are being given priority.”

The second reason for the controversy is the professional background of the candidates. The list includes a large number of doctors, educationists and businessmen. The question being asked inside is whether the basis of the ticket is loyalty and public connect or just electoral equations.

Meanwhile, the change of candidates for Darbhanga Graduate and Tirhut Teachers MLC seats has further fueled the debate. After one name was discussed, another name came up, sending a message that the selection process is not transparent.

Political analysts believe this is a litmus test for a party that calls itself an alternative to old parties. It remains to be seen whether Jan Suraaj will make its criteria for candidate selection public.
