THIRUVANANTHAPURAM – In a significant move to strengthen its footprint in Southern India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially deployed its National General Secretary and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP, Vinod Tawde, as the party’s in-charge for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections.

Key Strategic Appointments

Following his unopposed election to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra in March 2026, Tawde has been tasked by BJP National President Nitin Nabin to lead the “Mission Kerala” initiative. He will be supported by Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who has been appointed as the co-in-charge.

The appointment is seen as a strategic masterstroke, leveraging Tawde’s reputation as a seasoned organizational tactician who previously played a pivotal role in the party’s successes in Bihar and Maharashtra.

The Roadmap for Kerala
Speaking on the transition, party sources indicate that Tawde’s primary focus will be:
Booth-Level Strengthening: Building on the momentum of the “Booth Presidents Sammelan” to ensure grassroots connectivity.
Alternative Governance: Positioning the BJP as a “transformative alternative” to the long-standing LDF and UDF coalitions.

Youth & Development: Focusing on the central government’s 13,000 crore ₹ investment in Kerala’s farmers and the “Matru Vandana” schemes for women.

A Rising Profile
Tawde’s return to a central legislative role as an MP, combined with this high-stakes assignment in Kerala, marks a significant “comeback” for the leader. Having officially assumed his office in the Rajya Sabha on April 3, 2026, his immediate focus shifts to bridging the 20% vote share gap and aiming for a breakthrough in the Kerala Assembly.
